About the role

Reporting to the Principal Accountant, the successful applicant will assist the Practice to complete audits in compliance with all relevant standards to strict deadlines. You MUST have a minimum of one year’s audit experience conducting or assisting in audits in an accounting environment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Documentation of audits
  • Analysing data to identify fraud, poor compliance, regulations concerns, and deficiencies in controls
  • Scanning, allocating document IDs, cross referencing, and cross checking
  • Maintaining tight deadlines in accordance with the audit cycle
  • Demonstrating excellent report writing skills and proof reading reports
  • Responding to phone calls, emails and liaising with clients
  • Regular reporting to audit team on upcoming projects, clients and schedules
  • Evaluating internal controls and suggesting process improvements
  • Assisting with tax, accounting, bookkeeping, Practice admin and support, ad hoc projects as required

Skills and experience

Essential Criteria for Success

  • Sound understanding of audit processes in a public practice accounting firm with a Minimum 12 months experience conducting or assisting with audits and audit documentation
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in an accounting environment in public practice
  • Experience with MYOB Retail, AO, AE and XERO accounting software
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office products
  • Flair for managing multiple tasks/responsibilities to tight deadlines
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills
  • Highly self motivated with high attention to detail
  • Commercially focused
  • Able to adapt to fast changes in technology
  • Willingness to assist in tax, accounting, bookkeeping tasks & practice/admin support tasks as required and as your experience allows

Desirable

  • Experience conducting audits from initial interview to exit interview in compliance with relevant standards will be highly regarded
  • Exposure to accounting software and third party apps eg Quickbooks, Receipt Bank, Cloud accounting software
  • Qualified or working towards an accounting degree
  • 3 days a week with flexibility for more hours at times of high demand will be highly regarded
